lunchtime poll

what percentage of folks who "want to take it slow" really have communicable diseases they're working up the nerve to tell you about?

(today's poll is brought to you by the drug commercial I just saw and the memory of said drug being on the bathroom counter of a guy that once said the aforementioned. For the record; we were one and done.)

  1. I dated a guy who said he wanted to "take it slow". Of course after we slept together he told me he had herpes.

  2. Sounds about right to me. Who else has a tale to tell?

  3. While I would go with the cynical, I've actually dated someone who wanted to "wait" for all the right reasons. Shocking I know.

  4. It's so hard balancing optimism and cynicism when it comes to dating. Your post made me think, 'oh crap.' Then PetiteDov's comment restored a bit of faith. All any of us really need is one good one. I don't know about you, but I think I'm about due!

  5. he could have gotten burned in the past and hence wants to take it slow. but i agree, it is tre weird for a guy to say that.

  6. FWIW the guy was supremely weird. (I believe you know him and would quickly agree)

  7. and I don't think he got burned as much as he suddenly found himself burning ;)

  9. I believe! Not to sway this post too far into positivity land, but I'm always fascinated by stories of how couples met. How did you met your fabulous guy, PD?

  10. Ah yes, that should be an interesting story... :)

  12. Aimee - we met through a friend. We had known each other for a long time. Were friendly but not close and then both of our long term relationships ended around the same time. We started hanging out more (because of our mutual friend) - and then realized we liked each other out of the blue. Seriously, it was like one night we just looked at each other in a different light. It was a really nice surprise and he is a real gentleman. Also, elana knows him, and probably feels like TMI already, I tried to keep it vague. Darn it. So you know, not a very exciting love story, but I like it none the less. I like knowing how couples met too!

  13. Thanks for sharing, PD! When it comes to love, I'm all for details! (I really am kind of a sap.) Each time I hear how couples meet I'm reminded that it really can bloom just about anywhere... I like that! :)

  14. Uh oh. I'm getting taken for a ride on the "taking it slow" train right now. Maybe I should signal for the next stop...
