working for the weekend

It's simply sigh inducing to me when people who don't have jobs get all excited about it being the weekend. I've been unemployed and whenever I was I never gave a shit when the weekend rolled up. I was unemployed - every day was my weekend! Though truth be told the weekends were actually kind of annoying because more people were around, the supermarket was busier, the lines at Duane Reade longer, the sidewalks more crowded. Now I'm (incredibly thankfully and happily) employed and the weekend is god to me. Mainly the silence of no alarm clock going off, oh how I hate that stupid thing. So tell me unemployed people; (you can sleep in whenever you like, you can run your errands whenever you like, you're just as broke on Saturday as you are on Tuesday) what the hell are you so excited about?

  1. When I was unemployed, and actually now that I'm self-employed and work from home, I love(d) the weekend because it's a break from alone time and my friends can come out and play!

  2. funny you'd say that, that was the only reason I could possibly come up with.

  3. Ditto! Whenever I'm between freelance gigs, weekends are extra fun because then my mates are free to play too!

  4. But if you have a job which includes working on the weekends, then you just look forward to any day off. I just find myself sleeping on those days. Then again, I have no friends.

  5. I'm employed but work from home so can get up whenever, run errands whenever, etc. I agree with the first comment, I get excited because on weekends everyone is around for my hanging-out pleasure. My man is home, all my friends are free, everyone stays up late and goes to bed late. It's lonely on the weekdays when no one is around. Oh, and there's brunch! I love brunch!

  6. Love the new site! So fun! Good point overall. But for me...weekends are the few days when you don't have to stress that your employment options aren't working out as planned. When Monday rolls around, it's back to hoping that the upcoming week will be filled with more opportunity than disappointment. Then again I'm not the kind of person that looks at unemployment as any sort of vacation. It's a shame really. I'm missing out. :)
But now I have your new site to give me something to do while i'm waiting in line for my dreams to come true. Love u! -- Joe
